The reivers were the riding clans who lived on the English/Scottish border in the 15th and 16th centuries. The Armstrongs were one of the most feared families, but other formidable names included the Grahams, Bells, Elliots, Scotts and Douglases, the Maxwells, Johnstones, Moffats, Kerrs, Littles and Jardines.
